Main Stage Highlights
The conference opened with Charmaine Keegan, who set the tone with Be the Trusted Advisor, a practical and energising keynote on influence, trust and value in client relationships.
Day one also featured:
Steve Tighe with Making the Future Work For You
Jonathan Dutton and panellists with Where is Procurement Heading
Belinda Coates and panellists with Future of Work, AI & Leadership Panel
Day two continued with main stage sessions from:
Harry Moffitt with Building Strong Minds (and Teams)
Deborah Mazoudier with From Insight to Win: Crafting a Tender Strategy
Delegates also had the opportunity to choose their own conference experience, with two speaker tracks on day two and three speaker tracks on day three, covering topics across strategy, AI, leadership, writing, collaboration, procurement, pricing, graphics and career development.
Networking
One of the highlights of the conference was the chance to connect in person.
This year’s networking evening was designed to get delegates talking, laughing and meeting new people through a few fun activities. It was a great success, with plenty of energy in the room and a strong reminder of why face-to-face connection matters.
For many delegates, the conference was a chance to turn online connections into real ones, catch up with past colleagues, meet other proposal professionals, and feel part of a wider community that understands the work we do.
New Conference Initiatives
This year, APMP ANZ introduced several new initiatives to add more colour, personality and fun to the conference experience.
Melbourne-based live drawing and graphic recording artist Alice Edy captured wonderful artistic impressions of the day one keynote sessions, turning the main stage conversations into visual reflections delegates could enjoy throughout the event.
The Bid Confessions Board gave delegates a chance to unburden themselves by writing down a bid confession and sticking it on the board, or crumpling it into a ball and dropping it into the bid bin as a very cathartic conference exercise.
We also introduced a set of fun conference pins for delegates to add to their lanyards, featuring bid-related slogans including Professional Cat Herder, This is my deadline face, Professional Fire Put-Outerer, Keep calm and read the RFP, and many more.
To close out the final day, we launched The Great Proposal Quiz Show, a fun, competitive session that pitted Generation X, Y and Z against each other to see who had been paying attention across the conference. It was a lively way to finish the program and celebrate the competitive spirit of bid professionals.
Delegate Competition and Prizes
Delegates also competed through the conference app, earning points by connecting with each other, completing surveys, visiting exhibition stands and uploading photos.
The prizes included:
A weekend stay at The Langham
A $100 gift voucher
A Melbourne-based puzzle by a local artist
A bundle of the much-coveted conference pins
As part of the APMP ANZ refer-a-friend campaign, we were also pleased to give away 10 APMP micro-certification vouchers to support continued professional development across our community.
APMP ANZ Awards and Gala Dinner
The APMP ANZ Gala Dinner was a special evening of celebration, recognition and connection.

The best part of the conference was forging virtual relationships into something real, making new friends and catching up with like-minded professionals. Reconnecting & catching up with past collaborators, mentors, and meeting new faces was truly special.

Reconnect to grow
Overview:

2019 Conference
Make an impact
In 2019, 170 proposal professionals from Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and the Middle East gathered in Melbourne to celebrate the industry and explore how each of us could make a difference. The conference delivered world-class insights from international speakers alongside fantastic local expertise, leaving delegates inspired and energised.
A standout moment was APMP Global CEO Rick Harris making the long journey from Washington DC to see firsthand why the ANZ conference is so highly regarded. Mike Parkinson’s keynote reinforced the power of a well-crafted infographic, while Tom Sant challenged attendees to rethink value propositions. Kat Barter encouraged a refocus on priorities to beat burnout, and Kelly Richmond’s use of Mr Men and Little Miss characters provided a fresh perspective on bid team behaviours.
Laughter and learning went hand in hand, with the inaugural APMP game show, hosted by Rick Harris, adding a fun new element. But what truly stood out was the vibe—as famously referenced in The Castle. The energy in the room was palpable, with conversations flowing about fresh ideas and new connections. This excitement carried into the gala event, where delegates posed with scuba divers and endured a wave of fish puns from MC Felix Becker. It was a conference to remember—full of insights, camaraderie, and a shared passion for the profession.
